We’re engineers, global sourcing gurus, customer service superheroes, and more — but we’re also real people. In our blog series, “Employee Spotlight”, you’ll meet MPI employees, learn about their background and roles, and discover what they like most about working at MPI.

This month James Rabey, celebrates his seventh year work-a-versary. With a few questions, let’s get a little insight into our Sourcing & Applications Engineer.

What has your experience been with our company culture?

My experience with MPI’s corporate culture has been, and continues to be, a true joy. A lot of companies talk about treating their employees like family, Mechanical Power actually delivers on this promise At MPI, we not only work together, we share in each other’s lives. I know my coworkers’ spouses and children, and they know mine. From top to bottom, everyone at MPI is a meaningful part of everyone else’s life. This culture has made for an effective and enjoyable work environment. It allows people the opportunity to unwind and step away from the stressors that come with our business. This is a big focus at Mechanical Power.

What is your favorite thing about working at MPI?

What is the favorite part about your job?

Being able to work directly with both customers and suppliers to develop and implement solutions. Seeing an issue from both sides, affords me a unique perspective. This perspective allows me to more effectively solve customer problems by matching the correct manufacturer / process with each project.

In three words, how would a friend describe you?

Blessed, active, and loved

The family-oriented approach taken here at Mechanical Power is my favorite “benefit” of working here at MPI. We all work hard but family comes first. If I have a family issue and need time off, or to change my schedule for a day or a week, leadership always accommodates me and my situation. This is a rare “benefit” in the modern world and it is worth its weight in gold.

What has been your the biggest “lesson learned“ in the past 2 years?

That working together as a team, one can overcome any challenge. The past two years have been the most challenging in the history of the modern global economy. Despite this fact, the MPI Team has served their customers and grown the business to a record level.

What kinds of resources have you taken advantage of while on our team?

I have completed Karrass – Effective Negotiating training and worked one-on-one with a Harper College instructor to improve my efficiency and overall on-the-job performance. MPI is always supportive of any training that results in personal and professional growth.

If there’s one thing you could improve, what would it be?

I strive to be a better teammate internally and externally. I look to continuously improve my prioritization skills and resolution cycle time.
