Bearings, sprockets, chains and other products that transmit power (power transmission products) are not exciting on the surface. When you choose a career in sourcing, manufacturing or distributing bearings, sprockets and chains, you give up the chance to really shine at “Bring your Parents to School” day at your kid’s school. Even adults tend to put on the “what the heck is he talking about” smiley face. I use phrases like:
- Global Sourcing
- Supply Chain Management
- Inventory Management
- Power Transmission
- Mounted Roller Bearings
- Tariffs and Duties
I get very excited about each of these subjects, but none of them are sexy. The truth is that the exciting thing behind each of these phrases is a key element- people! Mechanical Power is all about taking the hassle out of Global Sourcing industrial components for our OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) customers. The only way to do this is to recruit and retain the best possible people who will deliver on this promise.
People make the difference. You could have the best products or service in the world, but without a passionate and dedicated workforce there is little chance for long-term success.
To enter the Power Transmission distribution industry, you don’t need to be an expert in all aspects of the industry. But it helps to be strong in as many categories as possible. Your expertise may come from a professional discipline like:
Or your expertise could come from the product side:
- Mounted Roller Bearings
- Spherical Bearings
- Tapered Bearings
- Engineered Class Chain
- Roller Chain
All of these elements come together -the professional disciplines and the product expertise- to form the best Power Transmission Distribution company. Accordingly, finding the best and the brightest in all of these critical elements is the key to our success at Mechanical Power. We are always looking for the best to join our ranks. Accordingly, people are my #1 priority.
How do I find winners in a highly competitive environment for talent? Constantly recruiting and networking. I have been working with the same recruiter for many years- she knows Mechanical Power and the Culture we are building here. She can tell the story almost as well as I can. We do not sugar-coat who we are or what we offer. We have a very open and candid structure and I only want employees who have made the decision that Mechanical Power is the right place for them to be. I don’t need to convince them- they need to convince themselves. That makes the best long-term fit for our organization and the most valuable employee. It’s all about value:
1) The value Mechanical Power brings to the employee, their lives and their family, and
2) The value the employee brings to Mechanical Power
Many of our leads for employees come from LinkedIn, trade shows and word-of-mouth. Creating a fun and winning culture will tend to attract winners. I hope that this blog may generate interest in one or two candidates who can bring value to Mechanical Power and bring career satisfaction to their lives.
